How to do heroin and not die
How to do heroin and not die.
Have you ever wondered why drugs work on the brain? Why does a chemical from the outside, fit so well into receptors in our brain?
Is there a keyhole in our minds, which can only be filled by “keys” harvested from a cannabis plant? Do our brains have receptors that were made to perfectly fit little bits of a bright red poppy flower?
In the 1970’s scientists began asking these questions. Soon after they discovered that drugs like morphine, heroin, & cannabis work because they are chemically similar to endogenous hormones. Endogenous hormones are those that are created by our human brains, as opposed to taken in from outside.
The reason heroin, ecstacy, and marijuana “fit” into your brain, is because your brain produces something very similar. Your brain essentially creates its own heroin, marijuana, and ecstacy.
In one sense, we are all drug addicts. But there is a problem with depending on external substances.
Because they are not the original keys that fit the keyholes in our brains, they usually lead to negative health outcomes.
As an analogy: Imagine a small wooden lock. If you use its intended wooden key, this lock works and lasts a long time. But if you jam a heavy duty metal key in, while it may work exceptionally well, over time, it destroy the lock.
So what are the natural keys?
THE HAPPY MINDSET For a long time there has been confusion as to whether “faith healing” works. In many studies giving someone a fake treatment, or supplementing with prayer, seems to help their well being. This is called the “placebo effect.” Many people interpret it by saying that if you have faith you can “heal” yourself.
Yet, there is a caveat, if patients are given opioid blockers, the placebo effect stops working. It turns out that the placebo effect is not magic or faith, but rather the brains release of endorphins: its own version of morphine. The same way you can start salivating by simply thinking of dinner, you can often reduce pain by expecting a cure has been implemented.
And very often having an overly stressful mind can do the opposite and lead to pain. People who are prone to anxiety and neuroticism tend to block the release of endorphins. While those who are very positive are likely to have a higher rate of endorphins in their blood, leading to a happy circle of positive feeling.
THE RUNNERS HIGH Are there other ways to release these natural “drugs”? Yes, after 30 minues of vigorous exercise, scientists have commonly observed of endorphins (similar to heroin) and anandamide (similar to cannabis) in the bloodstream, both of which likely results in that powerful sense of well being called “runners high.” When you exercise, you begin to feel well.
THE SOCIAL HIGH Mothers often talk about the euphoria of holding their first baby. That moment is unlike anything else in existence, and creates a social bond that lasts forever. And it is mediated by a chemical called oxytocin (though others are involved). Other social experiences, like falling in love, creating friends, and feeling accepted are also the result of neurochemicals. Ecstacy (i.e. molly, mdma) “fits” into brain receptors meant to create these experiences.
So if you want to do drugs, but don’t want to ruin your brain: Reduce stress, exercise, and have good relationships. It is literally heroin but wont kill you.
