Listen for the Sound of Silence | The Reluctant Skeptic

Sometimes God is silent.

Its has become commonplace to hear people say “God told me this” or “we were talking with God.” It occurs so often that one is considered “unspiritual” if he or she does not spend every waking hour in a literal, verbal conversation with God. I believe God speaks, because I have heard Him. He speaks mostly through scripture, but also through our thoughts, emotions, & even with an audible voice (I have yet to hear that, nor do I think it is used except for the most unusual of situations).

But sometimes… if seems as if God is silent. Sometimes… being told to try harder does not work. Sometimes… life is not victorious. Sometimes… the world is not at your fingertips. Sometimes… things don’t make sense. Sometimes… silence is the only sound you hear. In those moments, we may join David and cry out: O Lord, be not silent! O Lord, be not far from me! (Psalm 35:22)

And maybe it still feels like He is.

I can't tell you to fake a smile.

I can't tell you to pretend like things feel fine.

I can't give you a ten step solution.

I can't even explain to you why the silence.

All I can say is: know. Know He is there. Whether it feels like it or not… He is there. Know His steadfast love endures forever… He is there. Know His Word is still truth… He is there. Know His Promises still remain… He is there.

Let Your steadfast love comfort me according to Your promise to your servant.

Psalm 119:76

You have no idea how much this blog post meant to me! I faced the above feelings on numerous occasions, bringing forth more and more confusion and questions, however as you state: "Know He is there.
